Frequently Asked Questions
Which character should beginners start with?
Ironclad: 80 HP plus Burning Blood healing gives the most room for error while teaching Strength, Vulnerable, Exhaust and Block. Then branch out: Silent → Necrobinder → Defect → Regent.
Should I take every card reward?
No. A small, focused deck is always stronger. Only take cards serving your build and skip the rest; removing cards at shops matters more than buying them.
How many elites should I fight in Act 1?
There's no fixed formula anymore. Rule of thumb: fight elites once you have 1–2 answers and a rest site before them — elite relics can define your whole run.
Rest or upgrade at campfires?
HP is a resource — anything above 1 is "spare". If the next fight won't kill you, upgrade a key card (e.g. Defragment doubles when upgraded).
How different is co-op from solo?
2–4 players, Steam friends only, no matchmaking. Boss HP scales ×1.75/2.5/3.25 while damage stays flat, so support, debuffs and percent-based executes (Necrobinder, the only S+) skyrocket. Learn solo first.
What changed most from StS1?
4-player co-op; Ancient blessings replace boss relics; Afflictions (attached to your cards) replace Curses; new Enchantments, Quest cards and alternate acts; Defect loses permanent Focus; rebuilt in Godot. Many StS1 instincts need rewiring.
When is the Watcher coming?
Confirmed for Early Access with no date (community guesses mid-to-late 2026). The roadmap also includes Acts 2b/3b, new modes and the true story ending at 1.0.
When should I use my potions?
Don't hoard — you only have 3 slots. Block/Weak/Vulnerable potions belong to telegraphed big-hit turns and boss openers; Strength Potion and Blessing of the Forge want turn one; Duplicator and Liquid Memories wait for your finisher or key Power; hold Fairy in a Bottle purely as insurance against elites and bosses.
Is there a rule of thumb for event choices?
Community consensus ranks: targeted card removal/transform > relics > Max HP > gold, and gold-for-curse trades are usually bad. Pick whatever your deck lacks — removal when bloated, Max HP when fragile — and watch for scripted traps like Wongo's "refuse" option, which downgrades one of your cards.
What's coming on the road to 1.0?
The Watcher is confirmed for Early Access (no date), with alternate acts 2b/3b, new modes and the true story ending planned for 1.0. The team has also announced a longer gap after the August beta patch as they shift toward larger content drops.
